A Romp in the Yard

The chicks went out to play today! There is so much feathering going on it is crazy! Zella is looking funky with her crest feathers growing in, June has decided it is time to be rid of chick fuzz entirely and is growing in her neck and face feathers, Edith is taking a pause to admire the fabulous colors she has developed, Dot doesn't understand that chickens have tails, Shirley is going slowly but surely, and Betsy seems to be sprouting new feathers as usual.

Because their neck feathers are growing in and their fuzz is falling out they look like turkey vultures - especially Edith because she already looked like some sort of bird of prey.

This seems to be Dot's new look. I caught this pose 6 times on camera today at different times... a bit of a quirky choice for a signature pose I must say.
Nellie now has a bit of a naked neck. They are getting to a bit of an awkward stage.

Shirley still has lots of baby fuzz - adorable! Not as much as little Dot though.

June is looking particularly ragged these days.

You can see Zella's lovely crest feathers coming in now! She is going to be one funky fowl.
An even better view of June's awkward 'tween' feathering.
Dot is giving me her new pose again!
 Zella and her little tuft.

Betsy enjoys standing up very tall next to Edith, even if it makes her look ridiculous!

Whatever somebody else has found is always more interesting than anything to be found on one's own..

Little Dot's meager feathering. I think she will be bald before she adult feathers grow in!
Nellie knows how to give a serious stare down!

Even the boss has take a nap sometimes...
The girls tried to take dust baths but sadly there was no dust, just lots of dirt. So dirt baths it was!

Hmm... this looks suspiciously rooster like.
I can honestly say I didn't expect my dark brown little chickie to grow such bright red feathers, but I do like it. Edith looks like a tiger, which happens to be very suiting!
